The stunning rainbow over New Haven High School prior to Friday night’s Homecoming game against Belmont led to a sweet pot of victorious gold as the Bulldogs trumped the Braves, 21-15 in four quarters of wet and windy play.
Once again, Nishawn Jones once again proved his worth as a Bulldog, rushing 35 times for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also offensively, Hayden Graham rushed for 40 yards and 1 touchdown for the night.

On the defensive side of the ball, Adam Hoffer came alive in the second half with 2 quarters of explosive, and at times, highly emotional play, nabbing 2.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and 8 unassisted tackles. Reportedly, Hoffer had been ill during the week and spent a lot of time watching game tape and, if so, it really paid off for the Bulldogs on Friday night. Also coming up big for the New Haven D was J’Keveous Hampton with 7 total tackles and Hayden Graham with 6 total tackles. Adam Smith grabbed an interception for the Dogs, and overall New Haven caused 3 fumbles Friday night against Belmont.

Of course, what would Homecoming be without the pageantry of a Homecoming Court, and New Haven’s was exceptionally well-dressed and elegant looking in spite of the wet and windy conditions. The following students represented NHHS on the Homecoming Court on Friday night:

Freshmen Class – Ashia Howard, daughter of DeNisha Howard and Alfred Lockett, and Jackson Rhoades, the son of Angie and Don Rhoades

Sophomore Class – Lindsey DeCamp, daughter of Michelle and Mike DeCamp, and Jaden Peffley, the son of Jenny and Jon Peffley

Junior Class – Karlee Clear, daughter of Vanessa and Mark Clear, and Adam Smith, the son of Angela and Timothy Smith

Senior Class – Taylor Vachon, the daughter of Kim and Tom Vachon, and Ryan Shaffer, son of Melissa and Dean Shaffer

Senior Class – Paige Perkins, daughter of Renee and Rick Perkins, and Andy Kohrman, son of Brenda and Bradley Kohrman

Senior Class – Payton Casey, daughter of Karmen and Tim Casey, and Travis Crowe, son of Marijane and Michael Crowe

Senior Class – Hannah Smith, daughter of Holly and Jeff Woods, and Kyle Shephard, son of Melissa and Toby Shephard

Selected as Homecoming King and Queen for the 2014 Homecoming Court was Paige Perkins and Andy Kohrman.
The post 2014 New Haven High School Homecoming first appeared on West Bend News.

The friendly folks at New Haven Family Dentistry are currently celebrating more than 47 years of making New Haven’s smiles brighter.

The practice, which was opened by Dr. Robert Ellison in 1967, originally opened across the street from its current location on Professional Park Drive. Then, in 2007, Dr. Todd Kleinrichert came on board and purchased the practice from Dr. Ellison, who remains a part of the practice to this day filling in as needed. In June, the practice added a third dentist to the staff when Dr. Mark Noll joined New Haven Family Dentistry as an associate. The practice also employs three full-time hygenists, two full-time expanded function dental hygenists, and three front office staff members.

For Dr. Kleinrichert, the heart of New Haven Family Dentistry is its patients, and patient care is the main focus of the dental practice. “Our goal is to give patients the very best care that I can give them,” said Dr. Kleinrichert. “My goal has always been to remember that I work for God, so I try to treat everybody with that same concept in mind. Compassion, treating people as people and not just a tooth or a number is very important to me. I want to make sure I’m treating people how I want to be treated and with the respect they deserve.”

If you are interested in spiffing up your smile, New Haven Family Dentistry is currently accepting new patients at their office located at 615 Professional Park Drive. The practice’s phone number is 260-493-2113.
The post New Haven Family Dentistry Celebrates 47 years of Brighter Smiles first appeared on West Bend News.

By Beth Stauffer

The City of New Haven and the New Haven Police Department recently recognized the Fort Wayne area Target Stores for their volunteer efforts in conjunction with the police department’s annual National Night Out event which was held this year on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014.

Mayor Terry McDonald, Police Chief Stephan Poiry, and Administrative Assistant for the Police Department Jenny Blackburn represented the City of New Haven at the presentation; Jeremy Screeton represented Target Store 1933 on Stellhorn Road, Karie Gregory represented Target Store 2217 on Coldwater Road, and Angela McVay represented Target Store 2440 on South Thomas Road was Angela McVay.

“We certainly appreciate the outstanding volunteerism and teamwork of our friends at Target,” said Mayor McDonald of Target’s 2nd year in partnership with the National Night Out program in New Haven. “Their support makes the evening considerably more enjoyable for everyone in attendance.”

Police Chief Poiry agreed, saying “In years past, Mayor McDonald and I would be so busy serving hot dogs and running things behind the scenes that we would be unable to mingle with the residents during the Night Out. Thanks to Target’s volunteers, now we are able to take the time to talk with the residents who come down to the Night Out, which is nice.”

According to Karie Gregory of the Target on Coldwater Road, she and her co-workers enjoy getting out into the community and giving back. Volunteers from the three Target stores in the Fort Wayne area have logged a cumulative total of over 150 hours of volunteerism at the National Night Out and Gregory says they look forward to adding to that total in years to come.

Jenny Blackburn, who helped coordinate the event for the city, said, “I am so impressed with the Target’s corporate culture of volunteerism. Rarely do you find a company that so encourages and is excited about volunteering. We are very thankful to have found Target as a partner for National Night Out in New Haven.”

The 2014 National Night Out held in Schnelker Park marked the 31st year for the event and more than 35 million people nationwide participated in the event on Tuesday, August 5th. When the National Night Out began more than 30 years ago, the purpose of the program was relatively simple: to provide neighborhoods with basic information about crime prevention and ask residents to leave their porch lights on to signify their support of the program.

Since 1994, the program has grown and expanded to address the needs of a changing demographic. The National Night Out now serves to enhance police-community relationships while continuing its original mission of offering the public information and tips about how to prevent crime in their communities.

In addition to Target, 10 other businesses and organizations provided sponsorships to the 2014 National Night Out in New Haven, including Peg Perego, Rack & Helen’s, New Haven Kroger, Allen County SafeKids, Fort Wayne TinCaps, New Haven Dominos, Pop Up Party Rentals, New Haven Chamber of Commerce, New Haven Parks & Recreation Department, and New Haven Walgreens.
The post City Recognizes Target for Volunteerism first appeared on West Bend News.
