Antwerp Girls Earn County Title; Paulding Boys Take Top Honors at Welcome Park

On Tuesday evening, cross country teams from across Paulding County converged at Welcome Park in Grover Hill for the annual Paulding County Meet, hosted by Wayne Trace. The event featured strong competition at all levels, with standout performances from each of the county schools.
The meet began with junior high competition, where the Antwerp junior high boys claimed first place as a team. Kahne Moore led the way with a second-place overall finish, closely followed by Marshall Rice, Cy Zuber, Luke Saylor, and Krayston Eicher. Wayne Trace’s Wyatt Head won the boys race with a time of 13:16.
The junior high girls race was led by Antwerp’s Destiny Getz, who took first place individually with a time of 15:21. Though Antwerp was unable to post a team score, they saw strong finishes from Josie Laker, Heidi Rice, and Jocelyn Laker. Wayne Trace’s Maddie Morehead and Lauren Kipfer also placed in the top five.
In varsity girls action, the Antwerp Lady Archers delivered a commanding performance, earning their second perfect score of the season and clinching the Paulding County championship. Antwerp took the top five spots, led by race winner Leigha Doster (23:49), followed closely by Gabriella Snyder, Raelynne Zuber, Emily Laker, and Gianna Laker. Also contributing to the team’s depth were Taylor Stiebling, Jen Lawhorn, Annabelle Mowery, and Annabelle Saylor. Antwerp finished with a team score of 15, besting Wayne Trace (51) and Paulding (64).
In the varsity boys race, Paulding edged out the competition with a team score of 27, ahead of Wayne Trace (48) and Antwerp (50). Max Daeger of Paulding took first place overall with a time of 17:45. He was followed by teammates Landon Grinnell, Leonel Reyes, and Achilles Mead, all placing in the top ten.
Antwerp’s Corbin Sargent finished second overall with a time of 18:12 to lead the Archers. He was supported by Bryceton Barker, Jason McKay, Tucker Doster, Isaac Buhrer, Gage Barker, Camden Herber, Aiden Hook, and Levi Shelton. Wayne Trace’s top finisher was Jaxon Cook, who placed fourth at 18:59, followed by Eli Treece and Jerrick Johnson.
The Archers now take a ten-day break from competition before returning to action at the Edgerton Invitational on Tuesday, September 23.
