American Musical Productions Hart’s Boys & Girls Band Concert

Celebrate Hicksville’s Sesquicentennial with an authentic “living history” concert recreating Hart’s Boys and Girls Bands on June 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Huber Opera House in Hicksville, Ohio. This concert is funded in part by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and is a featured event of the upcoming celebration of Hicksville’s 150th Anniversary. Other events occurring during the first weekend in June include a Dinner sponsored by the Historical Society, a Parade downtown, A Car Show, and Fireworks at the Park.
In 1907, Hicksville jeweler and musician O.V. Hart formed and trained a band of local boys. The band gained local and national notoriety performing at the Huber Opera House, as well as touring throughout the state. When World War One called for the local boys, Professor Hart formed one of the first all-girl concert bands. Hart’s Girls Band took toured the country in the 1920s, but always returned to its homebase of Hicksville with annual concerts at the Huber. This exciting concert will pay long overdue tribute to both ensembles.
Joseph N. Rubin conducts American Musical Productions’ 23-piece concert band of Ohio’s finest musicians attired in period uniforms. The FREE concert culled from recently discovered Hart’s Boys and Girls Band programs from 1909 and 1919 at Huber Opera House will feature many beloved band classics. Step back in time to hear the same music your great-grandparents enjoyed; from light classics “Poet and Peasant Overture,” to musical comedy selections from the original 1902 Broadway extravaganza “The Wizard of Oz” and, of course, marches by John Philip Sousa!
One of the foremost authorities on historic American music, Joseph N. Rubin has restored, produced, and conducted “living history” concerts and musicals across the country. Mr. Rubin founded American Musical Productions, a Canton, Ohio based 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and performing historic American Musical Theatre and Popular Song 1890-1940. The Huber is thrilled to collaborate with American Musical Productions on this concert recreation.
So please join us at the Huber on June 6 at 7:00 p.m. for a delightful recreation of Hart’s Boys and Girls Bands of the early 1900s for this FREE concert.
