DOROTHY GOYINGS

PAULDING, OH:

Dorothy Goyings, 88, passed away on Aug. 9, 2022 at the Gardens of Paulding after an extended illness.

Dorothy Irene Todd was born Sept. 2, 1933 to Orville “Bud” and Blanche (Klingler) Todd. While attending Paulding School she was a flute player in the band and graduated with the Class of 1951. She married Ray Goyings on Oct. 26, 1952 and they were blessed with three children: Steve (Joanie) Goyings, Doug (Diane) Goyings of Paulding and Melinda (Chris) Walters of Antwerp. Dorothy especially loved spoiling her six grandchildren: Stephanie (Scott) Pier, Trent (Kelly) Goyings, Jeremy (Jessica) Goyings, Chelsie (Justin) Ross, Christina Burk and Brent (Brittney) Kauser. She was also Great Grandma to Grace & Tyler Goyings, Lyla & Dylan Pier, Axel & Garrett Goyings, Carleigh Burk, Bralen, Briahlyn, Brayer and baby (on the way) Kauser and step-granddaughters Riley and Macy Ross.

Although she never drove a tractor, Dorothy was definitely involved on the family farm. She drove many miles hauling the workers from the fields and spent countless evenings staying up late needlepointing her canvas designs while waiting for the men to return home safely. During baling season, the hired hands were treated to her hearty meals and great desserts. She and Ray shared many fond memories of square dancing and being members of the local Farm Bureau Social Club. Although they didn’t leave the Paulding County soil too often, they were able to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a trip to San Francisco and their 50th anniversary in Gatlinburg. They spent many summer weekends at Hamilton Lake and the Auglaize River. She was also a member of Know Your Neighbor Club and a member of Eastern Star as well as a faithful member of the Paulding Methodist Church. She was involved with the Paulding Little League Assoc. and Paulding Band Boosters for many years. Dorothy was quick-witted with a great sense of humor and welcomed her children’s spouses into the family making them feel as they were one of her own.

Dorothy spent much of her child rearing years taking the boys to their sports practices and games and Science fairs. She especially loved shopping with Melinda and attending her sporting and band events. Grandma will be remembered for her immaculate housekeeping and the great pleasure she took in decorating for any holiday. The grandchildren (not grandKIDS…those are goats she would remind us!) were fond of her cookies, Oreo freak-out and the best deviled eggs. They especially enjoyed their one-on-one time when Grandma and Grandpa would take each one to their favorite restaurant and Christmas shopping as the grandchild got to show them what they had on their Christmas Wish List…then Grandma and Grandpa would “sneak” back the next day and buy those “surprises” to eloquently wrap and put under the tree. Grandma Dorothy enjoyed having sleep-overs, shopping, playing games and attending sporting and school events. She will forever be an “angel among us”.

Preceding her in death were her parents, in-laws William and Mary Goyings, a brother and two special aunts.

There will be no public viewing or service. Cheri Hopkins Estle (friend of the family) will lead a private memorial and celebration of life for the immediate family at Den Herder Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Arnold will officiate interment at Paulding Live Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers include Steve Goyings, Doug Goyings, Chris Walters, Trent Goyings, Jeremy Goyings, and Brent Kauser. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in her memory are asked to consider Paulding United Methodist Church (308 N Main St., Paulding, OH 45879) or Paulding HS FFA (Paulding High School, c/o Staci Miller, 405 N Water St., Paulding, OH 45879).
