Midwest short track racing can’t get much better than what we’ve seen in the past two weeks. Indiana USAC Midget Week played tag with mother nature and got all their races in but two. Buddy Kofoid started out with back-to-back victories at Bloomington and Lawrenceburg Speedways, earning him a 36-point margin of victory in the final standings of the 18th edition of USAC Indiana Midget Week in 2022, to become the mini-series’ third back-to-back champion. On night number three Circle City Speedway in Indy was rained out. The Midgets then went to Putnamville’s, Lincoln Park Speedway where history was made. During qualifying the top-four fastest times were turned in by women Jade Avedisian, Kaylee Bryson, Taylor Reimer, and Mariah Ede.  The feat is most likely the first of its kind in auto racing and my never be repeated. During the feature race, Galloway Ohio’s 17-year-old Jacob Denney rained on their party to win the A-main. It was Denney’s sixth career USAC National Midget start. Friday night’s event at Gas City was rained out after the heat races, and the drivers went down the road to Kokomo for Saturday. After two separate rain delays which pushed the finish of the event to after midnight Cannon McIntosh took the final victory in the 2022 Indiana USAC Indiana Midget Week.

The best Dirt Late Models in the country were at Eldora this past week. What’s more exciting? The Eldora Million, The Dream or the 50/50 jackpots? Most of us at local sporting events are excited when the 50/50 reaches $200.00. This year’s 50/50 raffle winner at the Eldora Million race took home $90,851.00, and the Dreams winner walked out with $43,830.00. The winners share from Friday’s prelims was $34,631.00. This year the winner of the Dirt Late Model Eldora Million was Jonathan Davenport. The Georgia driver pocketed $1,002,022 for winning the Eldora Million on Thursday night. He lost the lead twice in the late stages of the race, once to Tim McCreadie and once to Chris Madden. Davenport was able to regain the lead for good on lap 87. Finishing behind Davenport was Chris Madden, Devin Moran, Tim McCreadie, and Chris Ferguson. On Saturday with only 14 laps in the books rain poured down on Eldora and the Late Model Dream was postponed until September 7th, when the remainder of the race will be run before the World 100 Weekend September 8th-10th. Eldora will release additional information soon. Congratulations to veteran race car driver, car owner and the owner of Eldora Speedway, Tony Stewart was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville Iowa.

Currently Ohio Sprint week is going on. The All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Winged Sprints, took to Attica Raceway Park last Friday night to start the week. On Sunday a second Hoosier found victory lane. Zeb Wise from Angola led all 30 laps to get the checker. On Monday night the series went to Wayne County Speedway. Justin Peck a third Hoosier won night number four. Oklahoma driver, Christopher Bell found victory lane Tuesday at Sharon Motor Speedway. Justin Peck picked up his second victory of Sprint Week winning Wednesday at Atomic Speedway. The final three nights will be Waynesfield, Limaland, and Portsmouth. Until next week, keep your wheels down. I can be reached at ohiosportsblitz@yahoo.com Ron out!
