The Left Turn

More area racetracks are starting to open, and we’ll cross our fingers the weather will cooperate. This past weekend at Attica Raceway Park, defending 410 Sprint Car Champion, Trey Jacobs won his first feature of the young season. With one lap remaining in the race, he passed teenager Ryan Timms to get the victory and take home $4000. Cole Macedo rounded out the top three. Devin Shiels the three-time track champion in the UMP Late Models got the victory and picked up his 12th career feature win at the speedway. He’s now sixth on the all-time Late Model win list at Attica. The win didn’t come easy as he had to fight off JR Gentry and Ryan Markham thoughout the entire feature. The 305 Sprints A-Main was a battle for all twenty-five laps between Logan Riehl and Larry Kingseed Jr. It was Riehl at the line getting his first 305 Sprint win after competing in the class for three years. The fans got their money’s worth. Only .63 seconds separated the top four cars at the checker. May 6th. the UMP Late Models will be battling for $3000. Also racing will be the 305 Sprints, Dirt Trucks and Vintage Cars. The 410 Sprints will be off, because of the World of Outlaw/USAC Sprints double header weekend in Eldora. I will cover the Eldora weekend.

Two weeks in a row California driver Cole Macedo won the 410 Sprint Feature at Fremont Motor Speedway and took home another $4000. He led all 30 laps making the win look easy. Tyler Shullick, won his first 305 Sprint feature, leading all 25 laps but it got interesting with four laps to go, Matt Foos the current track champion, began pressuring Shullick after the caution flag came out. The race then became a shoot out until the checker dropped. The 20 lap Dirt Truck A-Main came down to three drivers with seven laps to go. Jamie Miller picked up his 32nd feature win at the “Track Action Built”.

If you like non wing sprint cars, then you will enjoy Gas City Speedway in Gas City, Indiana about hour forty minutes south of Fort Wayne off I-69. They run on Friday nights. This Friday, May 13, they will run non wing sprints and the Indiana Race Saver Winded Sprints will be on the show, along with street stocks and hornets. Limaland Motorsports Park will also be in action on the 13th featuring UMP Modifieds, Thunderstocks, USAC D2 Midgets and the Race Truck series returns. Personally, I would go to see the USAC D2 Midgets.

If you like racing on pavement former NASCAR star Ken Schrader will at Michigan’s Flat Rock Speedway Saturday, May 14th and Toledo Motor Speedway Sunday, May 15th competing in the ARCA Outlaw Super Late Models. He has 5 wins on the high banks of the Toledo Motor Speedway. Schrader competed in 763 NASCAR Cup Series events from 1984 through 2013, winning 4 races with 64 top-5 finishes and finished in the top-10 in Cup points 8 times. Plymouth Motor Speedway, twenty minutes west of Fort Wayne, is set to open Friday May 20th with a new look. The track has removed the dirt and is asphalt again. Opening night, they will feature the Outlaw Late Models, Sportsman, Street Stocks, FWDs and Hornets. This summer the track will host four Grand Slam high dollar races for the Outlaw Late Models. Sixty-four of the best drivers in the Midwest have already registered for the four races. The first Grand Slam will be held Saturday June 4th and advanced tickets are on sale. We are just a couple of weeks away from the opening of Sandusky Speedway and Angola Motorsport Speedway. Both tracks will have weekly shows and special races this summer.  Until next week, keep your wheels on the track. Ron Out!
