It was a battle until the end but visiting Tinora held on for a 16-14 win over Antwerp in the Green Meadows Conference football opener for both schools Friday night at Archer Field.

The Rams, who improve to 3-1 overall, scored first on a safety in the opening stanza but Antwerp quickly responded.

Quarterback Carson Altimus plunged two-yards for an Archer touchdown that put the blue and white on top 7-2 at the end of one period.

Tinora, though, answered in the second stanza with a two-yard touchdown run that put the Rams on top 8-7 at the midway point of the contest.

Another Tinora safety extended the lead to 10-7 Rams at the end of three periods before the green and white widened the margin to 16-7 with an eight-yard run for a score.

Antwerp, though, would make things interesting with a 22-yard scoring strike from Altimus to Kaden Recker that got the Archers within 16-14.

However, the visiting Rams recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory.

Tinora resumes league play on Friday as the Rams welcome in Wayne Trace, which recorded its first win of the season Friday night in a 50-6 victory over Hicksville. Antwerp hits the road to Fairview as the Apaches are also 1-3 following a 21-0 win over Paulding Friday night.
