Football squads find out regions

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the 2021 high school football regional assignments last week with area squads finding out potential playoff opponents.

Sixteen teams in each regional will qualify for the OHSAA playoffs following the 2021 regular season with a pair of Paulding County teams looking at a possible matchup in the postseason.

Both Paulding and Wayne Trace have been assigned to Division VI, Region 22, as the squads will meet in Green Meadows Conference play and could meet in the postseason for the first time.

The rest of Region 22 includes teams from Archbold, Ashland Crestview, Bluffton, Bucyrus, Cardinal Stritch, Carey, Castalia Margaretta, Colonel Crawford, Columbus Grove, Delta, Evergreen, Fairview, Gibsonburg, Hicksville, Liberty Center, Montpelier, New London, Northwood, Ottawa Hills, Riverdale, Seneca East, Tinora, Van Buren, Western Reserve and Woodmore.

Northwest Ohio is also represented in Division VI, Region 24, with schools including Coldwater, Delphos Jefferson, Fort Recovery, Minster and Parkway.

Antwerp is assigned to Division VII, Region 26, where the Archers will battle with many local schools for the berth in the playoffs.

Other teams in the region are Ada, Arcadia, Arlington, Ayersville, Cory Rawson, Crestview, Delphos St. John’s, Edgerton, Edon, Fremont St. Joseph, Hardin Northern, Hilltop, Hopewell Loudon, Leipsic, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Perry, McComb, Mohawk, North Baltimore, Pandora Gilboa, Patrick Henry, Spencerville, Tiffin Calvert, Upper Scioto Valley, Vanlue and Waynesfield Goshen.

Marion Local, New Bremen and St. Henry will take part in Division VII, Region 28, as that trio looks for a playoff berth.

In Division I, Findlay and Perrysburg will both be in Region 2 along with Toledo Start and Toledo Whitmer.

Northwest Ohio squads in Division II, Region 6 include Fremont Ross, Holland Springfield, Oregon Clay, Sylvania Northview, Toledo Bowsher, Toledo Central Catholic, Toledo St. Francis, Toledo St. John’s and Toledo Waite. Lima Senior is part of Region 8 in Division II.

Division III, Region 10, will feature area squads from Ashland, Bowling Green, Defiance, Lexington, Mansfield Madison, Mansfield Senior, Maumee, Norwalk, Sandusky, Sylvania Southview, Tiffin Columbian, Toledo Rogers and Toledo Woodward.

Western Buckeye League members Celina, Elida, Lima Shawnee, St. Marys and Wapakoneta all will take part in Division III, Region 12.

Schools from the area that will take part in Division IV, Region 14, are Bellevue, Bryan, Clyde, Galion, Huron, Kenton, Milan Edison, Napoleon, Ontario, Port Clinton, Rossford, Sandusky Perkins, Shelby, Toledo Scott, Upper Sandusky, Van Wert and Wauseon.

Teams in Division V, Region 18, include Bucyrus Wynford, Eastwood, Elmwood, Fostoria, Genoa, Kansas Lakota, Liberty Benton, Lima Bath, Millbury Lake, Oak Harbor, Otsego, Ottawa Glandorf, Swanton and Willard.
