Hydrochloric Acid Spill in New Haven

At approximately 10:30am crews were dispatched on a Hazardous Materials incident off of Nelson Rd.

A chemical truck carrying Hydrochloric Acid was emptying product into a tank at Brenntag a chemical distributor.

While emptying product into an onsite tank an incident occurred causing approximately 45000 lbs. of product to be released onto the lot.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department Haz-mat team was requested by fire command to assist along with ERS (Environmental Remediation Services) by Brenntag. Crews were able to isolate the product within a mile of the incident.

ERS is currently working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to ensure the product that has been isolated is disposed of appropriately.
