AN OLD TIMER

By: Stan Jordan

In this picture is not just any old eagle. Let me tell you about him, and I am pretty sure I am right.

About 10 or 11 years ago we saw that first eagle nest just east of the park across the river. They continued to thrive and raised a pair of young every year and I, for one, kept a good eye on that nest.

Then one winter, their nest blew down in a bad wind storm and they rebuilt it at once in the same location, but it didn’t last long, as it blew down again in another bad wind storm.

Everyone kept a good eye on that area and in a few weeks an eagle’s nest appeared across the river from Steve Derck’s. I have talked to a number of people and we think that nest and the adult eagle in the picture are the adults from down by the park.

I am pretty sure of all of this. I understand an eagle’s life is about 18-20 years and this pair are getting close to that age.

Well, I sure enjoy seeing them.

See ya!
