HAVILAND – Patrick Henry’s Becca Jones got the starting pitching assignment when the Patriots visited Wayne Trace last Monday. Jones responded in strong fashion as she has most all season. Jones, who is completing a stellar season with a record of 11-4 was on target as Patrick Henry shut out the Raiders 1-0.

The Patriot pitcher allowed just two Raider hits in eight innings of play. Jones struck out three and allowed a couple of walks.

Both teams played seven innings of scoreless softball before the Patriots managed to eek out a run in the eighth inning. Hannah Meter scored for the winners after Kaity Johnson and Ryanna Tietje each hit back-to-back singles.

Hitters for the Patriots were Tietje and Johnson with two singles each and  Abby McGraw, Ella Meyer, Natalie Nelson and Kayle Kruse each adding a single a piece.

With the win the Patriots improve their record to 12-4 and the Lady Raiders fall to 13-6.

For the Raiders, Madilyn Brigner went the distance, pitching eight innings and scattered eight hits while striking out two and walking just one.

Wayne Trace’s two hits, both singles, came from Emma Crosby and Meagan Speice.
