Archers Upset Aces In GMC Play

ANTWERP – Tim Taylor ran for 155 yards and the Antwerp Archers scored 28 straight points to defeat rival Hicksville 28-8 in Green Meadows Conference football action Friday night at Archer Field.

After Hicksville’s Zac Brickel scored on a 13-yard run provide the game’s first points, it was all Archers after that.

The Aces led 8-0 after one quarter before Antwerp found the scoreboard on a four-yard plunge by Taylor. Jacob Savina’s extra point kick then brought the Archers within 8-7.

Antwerp took the lead for good before halftime on a defensive play for a touchdown.

Blake Schuette picked off an Aces’ pass and returned it 34-yards for a score to put the Archers on top for good. Savina again added the extra point conversion for a 14-8 advantage at the midway point.

The Archers continued to widen the gap in the third quarter.

Quarterback Keaton Altimus found Cole Seslar for a five-yard touchdown pass that, combined with Savina’s conversion kick, put the blue and white on top 21-8 in the third quarter.

Taylor then provided the final touchdown of the contest just before the end of the period, scooting five-yards for a score that expanded the Antwerp advantage to 28-8.

Savina finished a perfect four of four on extra-point kicks for the Archers.

Antwerp will wrap up its season on Friday when the Archers (6-3, 3-3 GMC) visit Tinora (2-7, 2-4 GMC). Hicksville (5-4, 4-2 GMC) hosts Wayne Trace (5-4, 4-2 GMC) in a battle for second place in the league and for a potential playoff berth as well.
