“Day of Caring” Grows into a Month of Caring

United Way’s 26th annual “Day of Caring” brought together energetic volunteers to make a large impact in Allen County. Hallmark Home Mortgage (HMM) on Coldwater Rd. selected Associated Churches as their destination for a “Day of Caring” on June 21, 2018. They landscaped the garden, sorted food in our warehouse, and inserted our September’s Hunger Action Month marketing materials. Their impact did not stop on that day!

They continued to build on the enthusiasm that their team had from that one day and were driven to do more for Associated Churches. Steve Newell, Servicing Manager from HHM, says, “Hallmark’s culture is entrenched with loving and caring people. When we found out about the recent food shortage, along with the fact that it impacts that many families and children, we knew we had to do something.”

HHM hosted a food drive over the month of September. They gathered 643 lbs of food and collected $536. One spirited person even gifted $351, which is the cost to feed a family of 4 for a year!

Lynn Case, Front Desk Administrator at HMM, says,”I would love to host another food drive. Being this was my first ever attempt at doing one, I learned a lot and want to be more successful next year. It is an amazing feeling to be able to do something to help others in need.”
