The Paulding County Republicans had their annual Dinner Fundraiser on Friday, August 3.

Paulding County Republican President, Jerry Zielke, opened the meeting with greeting people and then dinner which was very appetizing at the Paulding Eagles.

Justice Mary DeGenaro spoke first. She is currently the 159th sitting Justice on the Ohio Supreme Court. She was appointed by the governor from the 7th district court of appeals. Justice DeGenaro said Ohio’s judge’s race is not partisan and there will not be an “R” or a “D” next to their names. She wanted to convey to the party about being certain and send reminders to their friends and family each week of how important it is for them to vote for the judges race. She said both of the opposition candidates are from Cuyahoga County which is a very populated county and wants the people here to really stand up for their vote.

Judge Craig Baldwin, Justice Candidate for Ohio Supreme Court, is currently a judge for the 5th District Court of Appeals. He stated that we need to ensure that there is a separation of powers. Judges should not be “legislating from the bench.” He has a family and knows how important that is.

Bob Latta spoke next and he said that judges need to interpret the law and not make the law. He said there was a couple of brothers who were liberal justices that drove business out of Ohio and it has taken a long time to recover. Mr. Latta  then commented that people need to make sure that they get out and vote to ensure that good judges are put in during the critical off year elections. Latta also talked about his bill that is going to release a part of the radio spectrum to farmers and hospitals to have a much better accuracy in their work.

Senator Rob McColley spoke next, he was appointed to his position. He is up for election for the State Senator District 1 race. McColley is from Napoleon and graduated from The Ohio State University and is also an attorney at Clemens, Korhn, Liming and Warnck Ltd., Attorneys at Law. At The Ohio State University, he earned a degree in finance in 2007. McColley then went on to obtain a juris doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law in 2010. He emphasized the grassroots efforts that get presidents elected. He said it’s important to protect each other and work together in Northwest Ohio. Mr. McColley said that Ohio is mandating that there will be a 30% reduction in Ohio regulations. After that it will be 2 for 1. What that means is for every regulation that is put into effect, 2 must be eliminated.

The bid auction for the Republican Women is their biggest fundraiser of the year. Greg Reinhart won the auction for the GOP tie for $200.
