State Rep. Riedel’s Legislation Naming May ‘Drive Ohio Byways Month’ Heads to Governor

State Representative Craig S. Riedel (R-Defiance) announced the Ohio House concurred on Senate changes to House Bill 159, legislation that designates the month of May as “Drive Ohio Byways Month.”

Members of the Ohio House favorably passed a slate of 28 bills that impact residents across the state, demonstrating that the House is committed to getting back to work and focused on meaningful legislation.

Ohio has 27 byways, which are scenic routes upon which cultural, historic, and natural attractions can be seen and are some of the best ways to explore Ohio. May was chosen as the designated month because it marks the start of tourism in Ohio.

“Designating the month of May as ‘Drive Ohio Byways Month’ was an idea that was brought to me by Donna Grube with the Greater Grand Lake Region Visitors Center,” said Riedel. “This is a good tourism bill that will help promote Ohio’s 27 byways with the hope that people will travel these scenic routes and patronize local businesses along the way.”

Donna Grube added that Ohio Byway Links, the organization made up of Ohio’s Byway Committees, is very appreciative of Representative Riedel’s efforts and thanks the legislature for shining a spotlight on the beautiful, interesting, historic and scenic routes that we have throughout Ohio. This measure will give the local byway committees the opportunity to promote their routes to travelers each year and to encourage exploration of the small towns, rural landscapes and scenic vistas along the way.

House Bill 159 now awaits the Governor’s consideration.
