Not very far from where the Paulding boys were playing was the Regional Semi-Final for the Lady Raiders against Leipsic. The game took place in the Field House at Elida on March 8. What everyone needs to realize is this is new territory for the Wayne Trace Raiders in basketball. They had never made it past District Finals before this year. This really is a good crew, even though it hasn’t had the height of past teams. Both teams were the same by record entering this match.

The first period in this girls match looked to be in the hands of the Lady Raiders when the score was 12-7. The fans were cheering, believing they had this game. Claire Sinn was on fire and the game going well.

It was the second stretch that sent the girls into desperation. They were only able to score 9 points and this put them in a terrible deficit to try and dig out of in the second half when Leipsic had posted 24 more. The half ended 21-31.

The next 2 quarters were just typical periods and the girls were pretty even. Miriam Sinn, outside, had scored 3 of the 3-point baskets. They just could not dig out of the hole they were in from the second quarter. Altogether, the girls posted 9 3-pointers and 5 2-point field goals. The Raiders easily lead on rebounds.

Coach Bethany DeJarnett was still very proud of her team and the records they broke this year across the board. These girls all worked hard and deserved every bit of how far they made it in the tournament! The girls finished their season with a 22-4 record.
