Antwerp HS Wrestler Makes History

Randall Mills

Aidan McAlexander

The Antwerp High School wrestling team recently competed in the sectional tournament at Archbold High School on February 23 & 24.  Of the 3 Archer wrestlers competing, 2 of them managed a top 4 finish and therefore will move on to the district tournament at Defiance High School next weekend. Sophomore Randall Mills finished 2nd in the 113 pound weight class earning 1 pin and 1 decision.  This marks the 2nd time in as many tries that Mills has qualified for the district tournament. Junior Aidan McAlexander (106 lbs) made history on Saturday by becoming the first sectional champion in school history when he defeated state ranked Zach Mattin of Delta 5-0. McAlexander finished the tournament undefeated with 1 pin and 2 decisions. This also marks McAlexander’s 2nd time in qualifying for the district tournament. If either wrestler finishes in the top 4 at Districts, then they will earn a spot at the state tournament on March 8-10 in Columbus. Congratulations to both Aidan and Randall for their hard work not just this weekend but for the entire season. We wish you the best of luck at districts.  Good luck and GO ARCHERS!!
