Seven years ago the owners of Grabill Hardware realized there was a need for a community hardware store in Woodburn. The previous hardware store, also known as Norm’s, had went out of business and the building was sitting empty. Norm’s had been there approximately 30 years.

The owners of Grabill Hardware came in and gave new life to the building, opening a full-service retail hardware store for the small, but thriving, farming community. It has become a central place for people to gather, find items for their repair needs and even to help complete the remodeling of their homes.

Right now, this store is hopefully finishing up the winter season and has just introduced seeds and seed starter kits for those who want to get an early jump on their gardening.

Just recently, the owners decided it was time for a new sign! It needed to have the feel of the city. Woodburn Hardware and Grabill Hardware sought out the West Bend Printing Company to make their 180 square-foot signed to replace the fading and cracked old sign. The new sign was financed from a grant from East Allen Alliance that came in because of the City of Woodburn and Lynn Rorick representing the Store.

The sign is bright orange, but gives a new feeling specifically for the Woodburn community with the new water tower built right along with the Do-It Best logo. Jim Gerig commented about how the sign stands out so much better than it did previously and really appreciated the work by West Bend Printing from creation to installation.

The owners of the store are Claude Schrock, Len Schrock, and Jim Gerig. They work very hard to ensure the community has hardware and home needs covered. For the most part there is no need to leave town for your shopping experiences in Woodburn.

The employees who work there are very knowledgeable — Lisa Smith (purchasing and sales), Tami Slattery, Donna Dial, and Dennis Miesle in addition with Jim.

What new feature that they have also included is local products from local companies. This feature specifically items from around the area including from the Sechler Pickle factory. Very delicious! They also include local items such as from the Straight Gate Farm in Hicksville for the live plants for the community. Some times starting from seeds are difficult and this makes it much easier. Plants will arrive the 1st of May to get started!

You can count on Woodburn Hardware to have knowledgeable sales staff so that when you walk in you won’t have to do all the searching yourself. They know exactly what they are selling and will be able to provide a solution for your problem.

They also have a line of paints that are specifically from Do-It Best known as the Best Look and is made by Sherwin Williams, a very high-quality paint for the needs of remodeling projects and new construction.

The hours at Woodburn Hardware are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays or you can call 260-632-3005 for any questions.
