Robert “Bob” Unger

PAULDING, OH:

Robert “Bob” Unger age 88 died Sunday, September 10.

He was born in Paulding on January 19, 1929 son of the late James I. and Florence M. (Ludwig) Unger. On September 14, 1958 he married Pauline J. Jackson, who preceded him in death on November 26, 2009. He was a US Army Corporal during the Korean War and retired in 1980 from the former Grizzley Corporation after 33 years of service and then worked at the former Dietrick Industries of Hicksville, Thompson Steel of Paulding, and John Manville of Defiance. He was a member of First Christian Church, Paulding, and a member of the Paulding Fire Department where he was Captain for 12 years.

He is survived by three daughters, Juanita (Bill) Sharpe, Antwerp, Terry (Jim) Clark, Cecil, and Gina (Brian) Vance, Paulding; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

He is also preceded in death by 2 sons, Gene Rowe and James R. “Bo” Unger; 2 grandsons, Cody and Dustyn Unger; great grandson, Darryl Hazuga Jr.; a brother, James Unger; and a sister, Betty Hanenkratt.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday, September 15 at First Christian Church, Paulding with Pastor Merlyn Winters officiating. He will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding, with military graveside rites.

Visitation will be 2 – 8 PM Thursday, September 14 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. There will also be visitation on Friday from 10 AM until of services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made to Alzheimer’s Association.
