Russell Junior Holtsberry,  79, of Paulding died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at CHP Inpatient Hospice, Defiance, OH.

He was born September 8, 1932 in Paulding County, Ohio the son of Russell C. and Alice V. (Miller) Holtsberry. In 1986 he married Kim L. Holtsberry who preceded him in death in 1990. He was a maintenance supervisor for Hudson Oxygen in California for 18 years retiring in 1990.  He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean and Vietnam Era conflicts. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters: Teresa Holtsberry of Tennessee and Laresa Johnson of Paulding; a son, Mark (Lisa) Holtsberry of Paulding; four brothers: John (Shirley) Holtsberry of Ayresville, OH, Charles “Topper” (Rae) Holtsberry of Paulding, Justus (Elvene) Holtsberry of Oakwood, and Rodger (Rose) Holtsberry of Paulding; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three sisters: Joan Holtsberry, Iona Dysinger, and Delores Yoh.

Dolores Jane Phlipot, 76, of Paulding died Monday, February 13, 2012 at the Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.

She was born August 26, 1935 in Paulding, the daughter of Roy J. and Eva E. (Schortgen) Rickels. On March 10, 1952 she married Robert W. Phlipot who preceded her in death on November 14, 2010. She was a Girl Scout Leader; Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. Dolores devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved nature, enjoyed needlework and played the piano.

She is survived by three daughters: Sandra (Joseph) Weaver of Angola, IN, Janet (Randall) Goyings of Paulding, and Debra (Kim) Poling of Convoy; a son, Robert (Gina) Phlipot Jr. of Antwerp; six grandchildren: Kris (Janet) Eby, Ryan (Amanda) Goyings, Miranda (Joe) Martel, Robbie Phlipot, Josh Poling, and Ashley (Nathan) Long; and eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Romane Rickels, Defiance, OH.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Funeral services were conducted February 20, 2012 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Pastor Wayne Karges officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Paulding.

Dorothy N. Carlisle, 88, of Paulding died Friday, February 17, 2012 at CHP Inpatient Hospice, Defiance.

She was born in Spencerville, IN on October 5, 1923 the daughter of Clarence J. and Jane L. (Dorsey) Hissong. On December 23, 1945 she married Gerald “Gib” Carlisle who died on December 7, 1985. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member and a “Golden Eagle” of the Paulding F.O.E. Lodge #2405 Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by four sons: Edgar (Mae Lee) Carlisle, Roger (Janet) Carlisle, and Dennis (Cheryl) Carlisle all of Paulding, and Ronald (Susan) Carlisle of Antwerp; four daughters: Judith (Lawrence) Densmore of Oakwood, Marsha Bennett, Patricia (Larry) Burkley and Pam Font all of Paulding; a brother, Richard Hissong of Woodburn, IN; two sisters: Rosa Hannah of Bryan, and Virginia Johnston of Traverse City, MI; 30 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson; a granddaughter; a great-grandson, a great-granddaughter; a son-in-law; four brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Pastor Eileen Kochensparger will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Scipio Cemetery, Allen County, IN.

Visitation was on February 21, 2012 at the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, from 2:30–8:00 p.m., where the Paulding F.O.E. Lodge #2405 Auxiliary conducted memorial services at 7:30 p.m.

Max Arthur Smith, 96, of Antwerp passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at his residence.

Max was born in Antwerp on November 21, 1915, a son of the late Carl F. and Norma C. (Filley) Smith. During WWII he served in the operation of supply points in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany in Patton’s Third Army. He was part of a group of soldiers who inspected Buchenwald Concentration Camp the day after it was liberated.

He was a member of the Antwerp United Methodist Church. Max was co-owner of L. Smith & Son, Inc. until retiring in 1983. At that time, L. Smith & Son, Inc. was the oldest Buick dealership and the second oldest Pontiac dealership in the world. On August 9, 1940 he married Hope Eleanor Revert in Wauseon.

Max will be sadly missed by his wife, Hope; son, Rob (Jennifer) of Melbourne, KY; daughter, Carol (John) Chilcote of Antwerp; grandsons: Scott (Nadine) Cottrell of Falls Church, VA and Brad of Lexington, KY; and sister, Dorothy (Ray) Jeffery of Antwerp.

Leonard F. Zuber, 74, of Payne, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 surrounded by his family, at his residence.

Leonard was born in Payne on August 1, 1937, a son of the late Isabelle (Wetli) and Frank  Zuber. He served in the U.S. Army, from 1960 to 1962. Leonard was a retired farmer, also worked at Dana Corp. and was a Benton Twp. Trustee from 1990 to 2010. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, sports, gardening, traveling and wintering in Florida. Leonard was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, but enjoyed his grandchildren’s sporting events most of all. Leonard was a proud member of the Divine Mercy Catholic Church Choir. On October 5, 1963 he married Marilyn Gonya.

Leonard will be sadly missed by his wife, Marilyn; children: Mike (Cindy) of Fort Wayne, Steve (Nicole) of Van Wert, Laura (Rich) Brinkman of Monroeville, IN, Karen (Eric) Overholt of Delphos, Greg (Ruth) of Fort Wayne; siblings: Russell (Carol) of Payne and Beatrice (Leonard) Karr of Garrett, IN; brother-in-law, Gary Wobler of Carmel, IN; former exchange student son, Dan Gadioma of NY, NY; and 13 grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death are his siblings: Arlene Wobler and David.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Payne, on February 21, 2012 with Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. He was laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

John Tuto, 64, of Antwerp passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his residence.

John was born in Fort Wayne, IN on March 4, 1947, a son of the late Ercal (Brown) and John Tuto.

He was an avid skilled metal fabricator and car enthusiast. John loved spending time with his family and friends. After 37 years of employment at Dana Weatherhead, John ran his own business, “Tin Man Fabrication.”

John will be sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Darlane Jo (Everett); children: Lyn (Ken) Siegel, Tammy (Steve) VanVlerah, John and  Troy Tuto; grandchildren: Taylor, John, Mike, Austin, Steven, Samantha, David, and Bradley.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Connie (Ron) Bergman and Judy Powell.

Special appreciation goes to PCH nurses, Cathy and Cindy; his friends: Mark Lucas, Emerson, Hill and Ken, and Debbie Leinweber for their caring support.

Viewing was at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, on February 21, 2012. Private service will be held at a later date.

Esther Lucille Stiner, 95, of Antwerp, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at The Gardens of Paulding.

Esther was born in Payne on September 29, 1916, a daughter of the late Ruey (Smalley) and Lonnie  Watson. She graduated from Antwerp High School and was a nurses’ aid in Coldwater, MI and Van Wert, OH. Esther was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. In 1950 she married Harry Stiner, who died in 2002.

Esther will be sadly missed by her sister, Mary Boesch Meyer, of Antwerp; brother, Earl (Ruth) Watson of Hicksville; and her nieces and nephews.

Viewing is Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 2:00–4:00 and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp. Services are Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., with viewing one hour prior at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp. Esther will be laid to rest at Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne.

Marjorie Louise Font, 92, of Paulding died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.

She was born May 8, 1919 in Van Wert County, Ohio the daughter of Ray B. and Laura Mae (Black) Rogers.  On August 28, 1951 she married Forrest G. Font, who preceded her in death on March 14, 1994. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Paulding.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Randall) Baxter of Galland, TX; two sons: Daniel (Mary) Font of Hampstead, NC, and Richard Font of Paulding; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Funeral services were conducted February 21, 2012 at Den Herder Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Bibler officiating. Burial was in Mohr Cemetery, Van Wert County, OH.

Marjorie Marie Eakins Evans Sickmiller, of Oakwood, died February 19, 2012 at the age of 100 years old.

Marjorie Sickmiller was born on Peach Mountain in Adams County, OH. She was the daughter of John Raymond and Martha Ann (Shoemaker) Eakins. She was a member of Auglaize Chapel Church of God and Gideon’s International Auxiliary. She was a lifetime farmer and worked many years for S.K. Wayne Factory in Defiance.  As a child, she helped her father plow the fields using a team of horses to plant the tobacco crop on Peach Mountain.

Marjorie is survived by four sons: DeWayne (Sharon) Evans, and John (Roberta) Sickmiller both of Napoleon, Jerry Sickmiller of Elida, OH, and Joe Sickmiller of Oakwood; four daughters: Winona (Dick) Hays of Oakwood, Janette (Stanley) Coplin of Paulding, Marjane (Lee) Baker of South Lyon, MI, and Judy (Dennis) Baker of Oakwood; a sister, Betty Tanner of Orient, OH; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Clyde Evans in 1994; Eryl Sickmiller in 2003; a son, Donald Evans; a daughter, Garnett Evans Noble; a grandson, Stuart Noble; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Sickmiller; great-grandson, Samuel David Sickmiller; two brothers: Charlie and Carson Eakins; six sisters: Thelma Iler, Norma Spencer, Beatrice Walkenshaw, Ermith Wellman, and Edra Elliott.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Auglaize Chapel Church of God, Oakwood with Pastor Christopher Baker, Rev. David Coplin, and Pastor Stan Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Blakeslee Cemetery, Charloe.

Visitation will be 3:00–9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.
