Marty Miller Presents China Trip at Board Meeting

The meeting took place on Thursday December 21st. Dennis Recker said that Vantage student Jerod Sukup from Antwerp recently completely and finished first in the job interview process.

Treasurer’s Report:

Christine Stuart presented the financial report to the board: income: $511,788.74; expenses: $536,931.57; interest: $5317.16

The electric usage is way down.

High School Report:

Gaige McMichael will be representing Antwerp in the County Spelling Bee. Principal Travis Lichty said the Winter concerts were all well-received and attended. The sports teams are doing well and the Middle School Wrestling is the highest number of participants the school has had.

Elementary Report:

Principal Amy Hammer said Deputy Mendez was here and does a great job working with the kids for the DARE program. They just had the graduation for the 12-week program. The Rain Forrest program was packed in the auditeria from 3 schools. All the kids in the 3rd grade took the reading comprehension test and all but 10 kids passed the ‘pre-test’. They have time to improve since the test is at the end of 3rd grade. This is the highest the school has had at this time.

Superintendent Report:

Marty Miller, superintendent, gave his report and he thanked the principals for their work and wished them well for Christmas break. A sound system coordinator will be a position they are looking to fill this job that needs a dedicated person to run the sound and video for programs.

Harold Gotke says the new phone system is working and saving funds right now. New laptops were ordered for the office staff. There were also replacements for the Chrome books that were getting old and needed replaced. Security cameras have all been updated by software in the server and a new security camera was put in with a fish eye lens. The LED lighting project is nearly finished. On December 28, the power will be out for a short time for CT sensors to be added to the electric system.

The calendar for 2018-2019 was approved by the school.

Dr. Miller gave his presentation on the China trip that he took recently. Many pictures of the schools, cities, and history of the Chinese people made the presentation quite fascinating along with the gifts he was presented.

The January meeting will be Tuesday, January 9 at 4:30 pm.
