Archers split with Kalida, Fayette

ANTWERP – Antwerp’s girls basketball team returned to the hardwood for games both Thursday and Saturday with the two contests being split in the win-loss columns.

On Thursday, the Lady Archers welcomed in Kalida from the Putnam County League for a non-league girls basketball game and it was the visiting Wildcats who emerged with a 32-23 victory in the contest.

Kalida opened at 7 points, 19-12 halftime lead and the Wildcats never let up in taking home the win. The Putnam County squad outscored the Archers 18-16 in the second half to wrap the contest.

Heather Oberlin paced Antwerp with 10 points while Karsyn Brumett added 8. Rachel Williamson, Tiera Gomez and Chelsea Johanns chipped in 3 markers apiece and Hope Smith picked up one point.

Antwerp hit the court again on Saturday where the Lady Archers welcomed in Fayette in a non-league battle.

Rachel Williamson scored 18 points and Hope Smith chipped in 9 markers as Antwerp moved to 3-2 on the season with a 49-34 win over the Golden Eagles.

Johanns recorded 7 markers for Antwerp followed by Brumett (5), Courtney Smith (4), Tiera Gomez (3), Amanda Roberts (2), Sabrina Thomas-Vankirk (1).

Williamson hit a trio of 3-pointers for Antwerp with Johanns and Gomez each adding 1.

Antwerp also forced 23 Fayette turnovers while the Archers committed 16.
