CITY OF NEW HAVEN TO PERFORM SMOKE TESTING ON SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM

New Haven, Indiana – The City of New Haven will perform smoke testing on the sanitary sewer system to complete the overall evaluation. Please note that “smoke” utilized in this testing process is safe for the community. This is a specific type of smoke testing which is non-toxic and will not harm residents or their pets. If residents receive smoke within their residential structure or have concerns, please contact Utility Superintendent, Dave Jones at New Haven City Hall at 748-7056.

Smoke Testing Area: Woodridge subdivision (bordering on the east side by Werling Road, South side of Moeller Road, and the west side by Hartzell Road.) Testing began December 7 and will run through December 14th (weather permitting).

Director of Engineering Keith Schlegel said, “We are performing a thorough evaluation of our sanitary sewer system. The evaluation is necessary because during heavy rain events, the sewer system in our neighborhoods is causing raw sewage to back up into some basements and causing the manholes to periodically overflow.”
