St. Michaels Knights of Columbus Foundation in Hicksville was in full form this week when on Tuesday, October 24 a donation was made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The Hicksville Knights of Columbus Foundation awarded the area Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) a $5000 grant. The FCA will use the gift to distribute copies of the inspirational book  “Find a Way”  by local Fairview High School graduate and author Brad Hurtig to students throughout Northwest Ohio school districts.

The Hicksville Knights of Columbus Foundation is a not for profit charitable foundation. It serves to extend the charitable efforts beyond the initial and ongoing financial abilities of the local Knights of Columbus Council. The Foundation funds worthy projects undertaken by established organizations and groups whose works reflect the teachings and examples of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.  The Foundation’s Board is guided by the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and seeks to fund projects that defend human life, defend and spread religious liberty, evangelize the lost and extend Christ’s love to those who are hungry, lack basic human needs, imprisoned or suffering from addiction. The Foundation serves to provide a long term financial method to fund local charitable efforts whose core is to do good. The basic premise of the foundation is a vehicle to build up financial assets in order to “Do Good” as Jesus Christ would have us do.  Grantees will be restricted to Catholic parishes of the Diocese of Toledo and the Diocese of Fort Wayne/South Bend,  or  official Catholic organizations or other established non-profit organizations within Defiance County Ohio and any Ohio or Indiana county contiguous to the boarders of Defiance County Ohio. Organizations are eligible to receive grants from the Foundation no more than once every two years, unless deemed an emergency by The Foundation Board.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the world’s largest sports ministry, established in 1954 to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. True to that calling it has been serving in Northwest Ohio for the past twelve years.

Brad Hurtig has served as an FCA volunteer for much of that time sharing his story and faith in Jesus Christ. He is currently traveling across the country sharing how he “Found a Way” through Jesus Christ after losing both his hands at age 17.  With Brad’s story, “Find a Way” now in print FCA wants to get it to as many area athletes and students as possible. We are very grateful for the $5000 gift from the Hicksville Knights of Columbus that will help us accomplish this mission.
