Conservation Club Gathers for Fun & Hog Roast

Shown here is Dave Bagley of the Antwerp Conservation Club helping Makyleigh Rasey to shoot a BB gun safely and effectively.

On Saturday, September 23, the Antwerp Conservation Club hosted the annual hog roast for members and friends. Even though it was a hot day, it was pleasant to be with friends and family on this beautiful acreage on Road 53.

On this evening, the conservation club drew a winner for the gun raffle that they have been selling tickets for the entire summer. The prizes were a $50 gas card, $100 gas card and the Henry rifle. The winner of the $50 gas card was Greg Weil, Susan Kessinger won the hundred dollar prize, and Tony DeLong won the rifle.

One of the new features that the Antwerp Conservation Club is demonstrating the BB gun range. It was recently purchased from Daisy Outdoor Products and has been set up on the property, but it is also portable. Councilman Keith West introduced to the Village of Antwerp and who is considering allowing the Conservation Club to set up this portable facility in the park during events such as Day In the Park. Some people have not understood exactly what this is about, but it really is to help people, and especially kids, to learn to be safe around guns with an adult present the entire time. The entire range is self-contained and therefore BB’s cannot escape or possibly cause danger to others. Other locations are also being considered.

The Antwerp Conservation Club has been around for many years with its roots starting in Antwerp Village. Later, the organization bought land on Road 53 that was designated as 100 year floodplain property. This enabled them to get a good price with about 15 acres of land to be able to use for multi purposes. The Conservation Hall building is very nice and was built just over 10 years ago and it replaced in the mobile home that was there for years before.

The dinner at this event was very good with all the people loving the hog roast. All kinds of food were brought in for the enjoyment of all kids and adults sharing and eating together.

The Conservation Club has many events throughout the year in the public has certainly invited to them all. Membership information is available at the the website antwerpconservationclub.com

The next notable event is coming up in October where there will be a charity shoot that will be benefiting Toys for Tots of Northeast Indiana.
