Parson to Person

By: Dr. James Bachman

Dear Parson,

I really get discouraged. My life seems useless. What is the sense of living if I’m not accomplishing anything?

If you have not received Christ as your Savior, God is still giving you a chance to do so. It is too late after you die and find yourself in an eternal hell. Christ paid the price of your hell debt for you to prove how much He loves you. Don’t reject His free gift of salvation. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Then do in faith what it promises in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you have received Christ by faith, then live for Him each moment as He directs in His Word, trusting in His promise to help you. “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” That is all He asks. You may not know how He used you until you get to heaven.

At one point the widow woman gave her entire living of two mites, which was worth less than a penny. She had no idea that Jesus was watching, and that her selfless sacrifice would be recorded in Scripture as an example that would bring billions of dollars into Christ’s kingdom.

The thief on the cross that trusted Christ has the example of having done only that one good thing. However, God has used that one act to bring multitudes to salvation.

Your life is very useful to Christ. Let Him decide how He wants to use it and when He wants to take it. Just enjoy living for Him, with Him and through Him. That is why you are alive! “Thou are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou has created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11) “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (I Corinthians 6:20)
