Free Frog Gigging Workshop at Maumee Bay State Park

The public is invited to attend a free workshop on July 28 focusing on the basics of frog gigging, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

Topics to be covered by ODNR Division of Wildlife officials include equipment, techniques, regulations and a cleaning demonstration. At dusk, groups will enter the wetlands at Mallard Club Wildlife Area with ODNR Division of Wildlife staff to pursue frogs. Participants are encouraged to wear old clothes and shoes, and bring waders, hips boots, or a canoe or kayak to better access frogs in the wetlands.

The workshop will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Maumee Bay State Park, located at 1400 State Park Road, Oregon, OH 43616. After the demonstration, participants will head to Mallard Club Wildlife Area, adjacent to Maumee Bay State Park, for the field portion of the workshop. Participants should plan to stay well after dark.

Interested parties are reminded that anyone 16 years of age or older is required to have a valid fishing license to participate. Preregistration is required by July 26, as space is limited. Please contact Kelly Schott at 419-898-0960 ext. 21 for more information and to register.
