Showman of Showmen winner Kalyn Strahley accepts her belt buckle

On Friday, June 16, 2017 the Showman of Showmen Contest took place at the Paulding County 4-H Fair. This contest brings the top showman of each livestock category into a final competition for overall best showman. The following top livestock showmen competed: Jowaine Grimes, Rabbits; Jacob Klopfenstein, Dairy/Beef; Faith Meraz, Goats; Trevor Speice, Swine; Hannah Farr, Dairy; Kayln Strahley, Sheep; Eli Molitor, Beef; Heather Oberlin, Horses; Adrienne Rosswurm, Poultry.

“The Star-Spangled Banner” opened the contest in the livestock arena and the audience then moved outside to the horse arena to watch the contestants demonstrate their knowledge and showmanship of horses.  After the horse event, spectators moved back inside the arena to watch the contestants show the rest of the following animals: Horses, Swine, Poultry, Goats, Sheep, Dairy/Beef and Rabbits. Through the course of the next two hours each showman tried their best to display each animal correctly, sharing their animal knowledge with various judges. Despite the heat and nerves, each showman did their best. One junior fairboard member summarized the event: “Each showman sitting up here is a winner!”

The 2017 Paulding County Showman of Showmen winner was Kalyn Strahley. Archibold Equipment donated a belt buckle in recognition for her efforts and knowledge of all livestock animals.
