HOLY WEEK ACTIVITIES AT WOODBURN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

There will be many opportunities for worship during Holy Week at Woodburn United Methodist Church.

The Holy Week services begin with a Maundy Thursday Service on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. This will be a traditional worship service including Communion. Communion at Woodburn Methodist is open to any who wish to come to the Lord’s Table.

On Friday, April 14, there will be a Community Good Friday service at 1:00 p.m. at Westwood Fellowship Church. This will be a Traditional Service.

Then, on Good Friday evening (April 14) at 7:00 p.m., there will be a performance of the drama, The Final Exchange. “An incarcerated Barabbas is being attacked on three different sides: a Roman soldier set on avenging his brother’s death, a crazy man he has to share a cell with, and his own memories of a life full of anger and doubt that has plagued him for as long as he can remember. The salvation of one man’s soul appears to be the prize, but just as you think you know the price that must be paid, not everyone is who they appear to be.” Follow with us in this play as Barabbas and others live through Good Friday and how it affects their lives. The play is written by Robert J. Hammett and produced by special arrangement with Eldridge Publishing Company. It is produced and directed by Dawn Patterson. Following is the cast of this play:

Barabbas-revolutionary and murderer-Dick Hall; Crazy Man-Another prisoner–Sean Patterson; Woman-Woman who cleans the cell-Mercedes Moncivais; Roman Soldier-Guard of the prisoners-Peter Greer; Sarah-Barabbas’ helper in their cause-Brandy Patterson; Boy-Street Child-James Greer; Voice-Warden of the Prison-Terry McDonald; Extras-Joey Greer, Cole Patterson, Lacy Patterson; Lights-Dawn Patterson, Cole Patterson, John Patterson; Sound- Dawn Patterson.

There will be one 15-minute intermission and refreshments will be provided by the ladies of the church. There will be no charge for the play, but free will donations will be accepted to support the WUMC Thespians for future programs.

On Easter Sunday (April 16), there will be a Sunrise Easter Cantata at 7:00 a.m. The cantata is Lamb of God. This cantata was arranged and orchestrated by Russell Mauldin and under the direction of Dawn Patterson. The cantata begins with the rousing introductory song, “Praise the Lamb Medley” with “Alleluia! Alleluia!” and “Hallelujah! Praise the Lamb”. Next we move to Palm Sunday and Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem with the infectious “I’ve Just Been with Jesus”. We continue through Holy Week with the Passover meal and the theme song, “Lamb of God”. “How can we ever really understand the grace poured out on the world when Jesus died?” This sentiment leads to the haunting “He Looked Beyond My Fault” with a solo by Lisa Dial. Finally, Easter Sunday arrives with the joyous “Resurrection Day Medley” with “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today”, “Resurrection Day”, and “Rejoice, the Lord Is King!” The cantata concludes with the “Finale” with “I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb” and “Hallelujah! Praise the Lamb”, asking us to show how the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ has changed our lives. This song contains a duet by Tom Bergman and Annette Ruppert, and a solo by Dick Hall. There is no charge for the cantata, but free-will donations will be accepted to help purchase materials for future cantatas by the Woodburn Choir.
