Patriots Too Much For Lady Warriors

Woodlan Freshman Addison Bayman runs to the basket on a turnover, waits for her opponent to passover and scores for Woodlan.

Woodlan’s girls basketball team put together a solid showing in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament last week but two-time defending champion Jay County was just too much for the Warriors in the championship game.

Taylor Homan scored 13 points for Jay County and Britlyn Dues added a dozen for the Patriots as Jay County posted a 59-37 victory over Woodlan to capture the title.

Jay County led 15-10 at the end of one quarter and 26-18 at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter.

The Lady Patriots used a 12-0 run midway through the third quarter to break the game open and post a 43-24 advantage entering the final quarter.

Rain Hinton paced Woodlan with 14 points while Addie Bayman chipped in nine markers.

Other scorers for the Lady Warriors were Samantha Voors (five), Kayla Reidenbach (four), Ellie Kayser (three) and Caylee Moore (two).

Hinton also led the Lady Warriors with seven rebounds and Voors picked up four. Bayman and Kayser each dished out two assists while Bayman also recorded four steals.

Woodlan finished 10 of 35 from the field (29 percent) and hit 16 of 23 free throws (69 percent).
