Antwerp Wrestlers Have Successful Weekend

Aiden McAlexander nearly pins, Jake Hull, his Fremont opponent in the quarter finals at the Woodlan Wrestling Invitation. This event started early and continued on until 6:30pm on Saturday with 14 teams from around the area including: Woodlan, Antwerp, Hicksville, Edgerton, New Haven and many more. Other teams will be published when the school submit the results.

Both the junior high and high school wrestling teams for Antwerp competed in separate tournaments on January 14, 2017. The junior high squad competed in the Pilot Invitational at Ayersville High School with 1 of their 3 wrestlers placing in the top 3 of his weight class. 7th grader Trayce Lengacher placed 3rd at 92 pounds with a cumulative record of 1 win, 2 losses with 1 pin on the day.

Meanwhile, 50 miles to the west, the Archer high school wrestlers were competing in the Woodlan Invitational. Of the 4 wrestlers competing, 3 of them placed in the top 5 of their respective weight classes. Freshman Randall Mills earned a 5th place finish on the day with 2 wins and only 1 loss with 1 pin in the 113-pound weight class. Also placing 5th was senior Logan Shaner in the 160 pound weight class. Shaner amassed a record of 4 wins, 1 loss and 3 pins for the day. The Archers also crowned a champion Saturday in the 106-pound weight class. Sophomore Aidan McAlexander made an impressive season debut by not only winning his weight class, but pinning all 3 opponents along the way.  Congratulations to all the Archer wrestlers for their success over the weekend. Let’s hope their continued hard work will bring them more success as the season progresses.
