Lady Raiders Defeat Shawnee

Claire Sinn steals the ball, runs to the basket and scores a layup

The Lady Raiders hosted the Lima Shawnee Indians girls basketball team on Monday, January 9. It was a close game through half time and not the third quarter. Later, the Raiders broke out and Lima Shawnee got into foul trouble and could not recover. Over 20 fouls for the team and one girl fouled out.

The first quarter was pretty dismal for the Lady Raiders. Going by this quarter alone would lead you to believe that Wayne Trace was quickly and easily going to lose this game. Right away, the Lima Shawnee took an early lead. The Lady Raiders tried playing catchup, but couldn’t quite keep the ball. The quarter ended with the board showing 4-13, and the Indians were maintaining the lead. However, the second quarter told a very different story. If you were to go from watching the first quarter to the second quarter without knowing that these were the same teams, then you would probably swear that these were two completely different games. The Wayne Trace Ladies turned the game around and scored 23 points! Lima Shawnee wasn’t trailing too far behind, scoring 15 points. At the half, the scores were 27-28, with the Indians barely holding the lead.

By the time the third quarter had started, the Lady Raiders came back from the half with their second wind. Playing fast and quick against the Indians, the Raiders added 12 points to the board. Lima Shawnee, though, wasn’t too far off, and scored 9 points. This brought the scores to 39 and 37, with Wayne Trace taking the lead. The match continued to become more intense as the final buzzer got closer and closer. The fourth quarter was where it all wrapped up. The Lady Raiders sealed the fate of the game when they scored 25 points. The Indians continued their scoring average and added 14 more points. The final score of the game was 64-51, with Wayne Trace taking the victory. The score by quarter goes as follows: Wayne Trace 4, 23, 12, 25 = 64; Lima Shawnee 13, 15, 9, 14 = 51.

A few of the Raiders top scorers included: Kaylee Shepherd with 21, Claire Sinn with 13, Brooke Sinn with 12, Danae Myers with 6 points, and Sadie Sinn with 6 points.

A few of the Indian Scorers included: Alissa Stahler with 20 points, Allie Boone with 18 points, Kinsey Heistan with 4 points, and Trinity Gearing with 3 points.
