Lady Panthers Recover to Defeat Mustangs

Allison Arend drives in to score for the Panthers!

Girls Basketball – Paulding 29, Allen East 26 on January 12

On Thursday, January 12th, The Paulding Lady Panthers took on the Mustangs of Allen East in basketball. This game would be a badly needed victory for the Panthers. They haven’t had the best season so far, but they are a tough team that keeps on fighting. As the first quarter began, the Lady Panthers were optimistic and played hard. However, with their efforts, Paulding only managed to score 4 points compared to the Mustang’s 8 points. The second quarter went about the same way. Allen East added 11 points to the board, while the Panthers only added 5 additional.

During the half, Coach Rhodes challenged the Lady Panthers and encouraged them to bring in this victory. Hopefully, after some regrouping, the Lady Panthers could pull off a victory.

After a terrible first half, Paulding came back with a fiery passion. The third quarter showed that these Ladies took the Coach’s challenge and accepted it. Paulding brought in 12 more points, and only allowed the Mustangs to add 4. The fourth quarter was fairly similar. The Panthers added 8 more points, while Allen East could only manage 3. The final score of the game was  29-26. Score by quarter: Paulding 4, 5, 12, 8 = 29; Allen East 8, 11, 4, 3 = 26.

A few of the Paulding scorers included: Faith Vogel with 12 points, Brianna Townley with 6, Kaylen Hale with 4 points, Allison Arend with 2 points, Sydney McCullough with 2 points, and Daviah Pessefall with 2 points.

Coach Rhodes had this to say about the game:

The Paulding Lady Panthers got a big and badly needed come-from-behind win over the Allen East Mustangs.  “I was so proud of the girls tonight !  After a dreadful start and just a poor first half performance, I really challenged them at halftime and they responded with a lot of grit and pride in the second half !  Lots of contributors especially defensively and on the boards where we held them to two baskets for the entire second half !” – Coach Rhodes

Congratulations to both teams on a great game!
