Archer Last Second Shot by Wilson Takes Down Pilots

Last second shot by Maggie Wilson saves the game from overtime and gives the win to Antwerp.

The Lady Archers hosted Ayersville on Friday, January 13. The conference match would be interesting with Antwerp having a 7-4 record, and Ayersville having a 6-7 record.

The Archers started strong this game. They held the Lady Pilots basketball team to only scoring 2 points in the first period while the Archers added 12 to the score board. Karsyn Brumett was excellent this period with 2 field goals and 2 free-throws to her cache. The second period was good for both teams with Antwerp scoring 9 and 8 for the visitors. The half time score was 21-10 at half and Antwerp was in the lead.

The second half was different. The Pilots took off from the base and launched an assault on the home team. Though only four scorers, Ayersville pressed hard while Antwerp turned the ball over numerous times when passing back and forth to each other. Ashlee Tressler scored a 3 point basket and a 2 point field goal. The third quarter finished 27-21 with Antwerp still holding the lead.

The fourth quarter the attack by the Pilots finally tied that the game 2:24 on the clock and both teams at 30 points. Both teams moved on the defensive and for over 2 minutes the game was at a standstill. It looked as if the game was going into overtime when the ball being passed was intercepted by Antwerp’s Maggie Wilson who ran down to score the touchdown with only 2 points left on the clock, giving Antwerp the win.
