Lady Raiders Down Warriors

Woodlan’s Rain Hinton attempts to block Wayne Trace’s Danae Myers as she shoots from under the basket in the 3rd period.

On Thursday, December 29th, the lady Wayne Trace Raiders travelled to Woodlan for the last girls basketball game for both teams of the year. Woodlan has played 15 games before this match and has won 8-7. Before this game, Wayne Trace played 8 games and only lost their previous match. They’ve performed very well this year.

This game started off with Wayne Trace taking an early lead, but the Warriors did not take it sitting down. They scored nine points to the Raiders’ fifteen. The second period was very similar for both teams with the exception of Woodlan earning an additional two points compared to the first. The half ended at 20-30 in favor of the guests.

The second half was quite interesting when Woodlan fought their way back and nearly tying the match. Points by Rain Hinton and Addison Bayman clearly made a difference when they narrowed the disparity to within four points. Timeout was called for Wayne Trace, toward the end of the third and Coach DeJarnett got the Raiders back on track. The momentum swung back toward the Raiders and the third period ended 30-37.

The last quarter was a home run for the Raiders. Woodlan’s coach Cobb called time-out, trying to encourage the young ladies to pull back the tide. The home girls, though consistent, were just not able to stop Danae Myers and Claire Sinn when the duo were on fire. The game finished 40-56 with Wayne Trace taking the win home.
