Woodlan’s Homecoming was Friday, September 16 against Southern Wells Raiders. The parade started in Woodburn with a remembrance for Cody Osborn as the floats passed in front of Christ Lutheran. He was a junior student at Woodlan who was killed in a tragic Motocross accident in Toledo on Sunday, September 11. Students and parents were dressed in orange to show their support

Before the game TV Channel 21 was at the event broadcasting as their game of the week. The different classes drove the floats passed the crowds in the stands.

Once the game started it didn’t take long for Woodlan to post the first points by Trevon McCarter. The two point conversion was successful. The next two touchdowns were by Jack Rhoades. The second he ran the ball in 9 yards to end zone. On the third he received the pass from Justin Durkes and weaving in and out of the defenders to the end zone on a 33 yard run. The Raiders’ Mason Huffman scored their first and only touchdown and the first period ended 22-7.

McCarter added two more touchdowns to the score in the second quarter and the points after were good by Dalton Moore and Israel Vaidez. The half ended 36-7

The third quarter Woodlan did not slow down and the points continued to add up. Donald Guerrant scored on a 19 yard touchdown on a pass from Durkes. Dalton Moore posted the point after with a successful kick. McCarter added two more touchdowns in the third period.

No points were scored in the fourth period. The game ended up finishing at 57-7 with the Woodlan Warriors easily winning their homecoming game against Southern Wells.

In this match SW had one fumble and lost the ball to the Warriors. Woodlan had 21 first downs while Wells only had 7.

Tre’Von McCarter scored four rushing touchdowns and added one reception for a score to lead the Woodlan Warriors to a 57-7 victory over visiting Southern Wells in Allen County Athletic Conference football action Friday night outside of Woodburn.

Junior quarterback Justin Durkes also had another fine game, completing 12 of 18 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns to direct the top ranked team in Class 3A to its fifth win of the season.

McCarter ran for 134 yards on six carries to pace the Warrior rushing attack and while also recording six receptions for 117 yards.

Jack Rhoades rumbled for 120 yards on 11 carries in aiding the Warrior cause. Donald Guerrant also posted five catches for 112 yards.

Woodlan finished the night with 595 yards of total offense in improving to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the ACAC.

Defensively, Jordan Delagrange topped the Warriors with nine tackles.

Woodlan returns to action on Friday as the Warriors make the trip to Jay County to battle the Patriots.

Jay County will come into this Friday’s contest with a record of 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. The Patriots dropped their season opener to Delta 33-6 before rebounding with consecutive wins over Blackford (42-8) and Southern Wells (40-12). After falling to Adams Central 33-7 in week four, Jay County rebounded with a 37-18 win at Bluffton last week.

The Patriots enter the game averaging 26 points per contest while allowing 21.

Jay County has a trio of players with over 200 rushing yards on the season. Junior Cole Stigleman (6-0, 168) tops Jay County with 408 rushing yards on 65 carries with three touchdowns. Sophomore Ryan Schlechty (6-1, 173) adds 254 yards on 38 tries (five touchdowns) and senior Jacob Greesaman (5-7, 159) chips in 219 yards on 38 attempts (six for scores).
