Defiance Taking Applications For Supplemental Food Program

produce foodDefiance County Senior Services (DCSS) is presently accepting applications on behalf of the Toledo Seagate Food Bank for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).  Those persons who are 60 years of age and older are encouraged to apply.  Income guidelines do apply and all applications are subject to the approval of the food bank.

Applications may be picked up during normal business hours and must be returned to either the Defiance or Hicksville Senior Center before Thursday, September 1st, 2016.  Current food box recipients must also complete a new application for the 2016-2017 recertification period to continue receiving a box.  Paperwork assistance is available.

Food boxes distributed on the fourth (4th) Wednesday of each month at both centers between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm.  Each box contains approximately 50 pounds of nutritious food to assist seniors in preparing healthy meals in their homes.

Age and income eligible persons are encouraged to apply.  Residents of Ohio counties neighboring Defiance County may apply as well.  Seniors do not necessarily have to receive other services of DCSS to be eligible assistance.  Participation by seniors of Defiance County is encouraged, however.

Any questions regarding the senior food box program may be directed to Ginny Wiseman, Defiance County Senior Services food box coordinator at 1.888.267.3236 at the Defiance Center or Linda McMahon at the Hicksville Center at 419.542.5004.
