State Patrol Investigating Serious Injury Crash in Van Wert County

medical emergency policeTully Township – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating an injury crash that occurred at approximately 5:35 P.M. Wednesday afternoon on US 30 at SR 49, in Van Wert County.

A 1995 Holiday Imperial RV, driven by Brian Erne, age 53, of Warsaw, Indiana was eastbound on US 30. A 1999 Freightliner semi driven by Kenneth Cambron, age 78, of Port Jefferson, Ohio, was entering the eastbound lanes of US 30 from SR 49 and failed to yield to Mr. Erne. Mr. Erne took evasive action however was unable to avoid the collision. The RV slid off of the right side of the road, struck a road sign and overturned where it came to final rest.

A passenger in the RV, Kim Erne, age 52, also of Warsaw, Indiana was not utilizing a seatbelt and was ejected from the RV. Mrs. Erne was flown by Samaritan for serious injuries. Mr. Erne was belted and claimed no injury. Mr. Cambron was transported by Convoy EMS to the Van Wert County Hospital where he was later treated and released for minor injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Van Wert Sheriff’s Office, Convoy Fire and EMS, Samaritan, and Gideon Towing and Recovery.

The crash remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always buckle up, and to use caution at intersections allowing ample time for vehicles which have the right of way.
