Wayne Trace placed second behind Green Meadows Conference champion Tinora on Saturday, February 6.

The Raiders crowned three champions, Ruger Goeltzenleuchter wrestling at 126 earned his Second conference title, pinning Hunter Retcher of Tinora 1:18 in the finals.

George Clemens, wrestling 138, became part of conference history earning his fourth title, becoming one of 12 wrestlers to ever do so.  The 138 pound weight class contained three returning champions including Clemens from 2015, Riley Heater of Fairview, and also Bailey Slattman of Tinora. Clemens defeated Slattman in the finals 14-8, With that match, Clemens concluded his career in the conference staying unbeaten by any conference wrestler from the 7th grade on. Clemens also was voted as the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler. Chace Marroquin wrestling 145, also was crowned champion defeating Stefan Bowers of Tinora,11-6.

Also placing for the Raiders was  106 Tyler Bauer 2nd, 113 Austin Smith 3rd, 152 Hunter Showalter 4th, 160 Caleb Schultz 3rd, 182 Brandon Laney 4th, 220 Braxton Asher 3rd.

Caoch Clemens said, “We really wrestled well today, I’m proud of the job we did. To place as runner up, not having a full line up is a great accomplishment. I’m also proud of my son George. He could have chose to take the easier path, but chose one of  the toughest weight classes in the tournament, and then to become the first wrestler at Wayne Trace to become a four time conference champion, and remain unbeaten in the league is plain awesome.”

Team Points: Tinora 202, Wayne Trace 136, Ayersville 134, Fairview 122.5, Edgerton 104, Hicksville 40, Antwerp 35.

The Antwerp High School wrestling team recently competed in GMC Championships at Fairview High School on February 6, 2016.  3 of the 7 Archer wrestlers were able to place in the top 4 of their respective weight classes.  Placing 4th at 145 pounds was junior Logan Shaner. Finishing 3rd on the day with a 1-1 record was freshman Aidan McAlexander at 106 pounds.  Placing 1st and capturing his first GMC title was senior Justice Clark in the 170 pound weight class. Clark was able to close the deal after finishing runner up at the GMC tournament the last 2 years.  Clark also becomes only the 2nd Antwerp wrestler to ever capture a GMC Tournament title. The sectional tournament is in Archbold on February 19 – 20.
