Van Wert Post Investigating Three-Vehicle Injury Crash in Grover Hill

The Van Wert Post reminds motorists to use extra caution at intersections, obey stop signs and yield to oncoming traffic.

medical emergency policeJackson Township – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating an injury motor vehicle crash on State Route 613 at the intersection of State Route 637 about five miles north of Grover Hill, in Paulding County.

On July 6, 2015 at 1:09 PM, the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received reports of an injury crash at the intersection of State Route 613 and State Route 637. A 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Jodie L. Kinney, age 51, of Dublin, Ohio was traveling southbound on State Route 637 and stopped at the posted stop sign. Ms. Kinney failed to yield the right of way to traffic on State Route 613 and struck a westbound 2000 Ford Windstar driven by Kourtney Jo Thomas, age 16, of Oakwood, Ohio.

After the initial collision a 2015 GMC Sierra, driven by Eric F. Kohart, age30, of Fostoria, Ohio was struck. Mr. Kohart was traveling eastbound on State Route 613 and had stopped at the intersection to yield to oncoming traffic with intentions to make a left turn onto State Route 637.

Ms. Kinney was transported by Paulding EMS to the Paulding County Hospital with minor injuries. Her passenger, Noah P. Kinney, age 14, of Dublin, Ohio was not transported. Ms. Thomas and her passenger, Lauren N. Hill, age 16, of Paulding, Ohio were both transported by Grover Hill EMS to the Paulding County Hospital with minor injuries. Mr. Kohart did not claim injury. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and all occupants were reportedly wearing seatbelts. Ms. Kinney was issued a citation for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Paulding Fire/EMS, Grover Hill Fire/EMS, Gideon’s Towing and R&O Service.

The Van Wert Post has handled four stop sign related traffic crashes in Paulding County since July 1st, which has resulted in 11 individuals suffering injury.
