OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn Friday, March 13 the Wayne Trace Raiders and the Edgerton Bulldogs competed for the District Championship title at Van Wert High School. The game came after the Bulldogs won a hotly contest match against Hicksville and the Raiders winning against Antwerp.

This match started with Edgerton taking the tipoff but a turnover allowed Wayne Trace’s Cole Shepherd to score the first shot of the game. The first quarter wasn’t even close and this is the victory period for the Raiders at 6-19. Duane Miller and Max Nihart were the only scorers for Edgerton in this period. Shepherd, Luke Miller, Ethan Linder, Corbin Linder and Justin Specie all had baskets in this period. It felt good for the guest team and it appeared the rest of the game could go just as well. But it didn’t.

The next period of this once again foggy night had the Bulldogs back on board and competitive. They scored 11 points before ending the half while Wayne Trace posted 12 and the the half ended at 17-31, not looking so hot for Edgerton.

The second half began and Edgerton was on fire. Nihart added a 3 point basket and Alex Michael was scoring on the foul shots. There were quite a few fouls on both teams from this point out in the game. Both sides were being called left and right for the hands on approach in this game. Wayne Trace could only score 7 points to the Bulldogs’ 13 in this period.

What really made the third quarter memorable is David Sinn was finally able to come back to the court. Fans were cheering his return. He had been out since February 6 in the game against Hicksville when he fractured part of his foot, coming down from a jump under the basket. It seems like it’s been a long time, but the doctor gave him the okay to play in the tournaments.

The fourth quarter was ruled by free throws on both sides. Ethan Linder and Luke Miller both successfully used their speed and agility to gather free shots. It was a good thing too for the Raiders as several were nearing the point of fouling out. This was the Raiders highest quarter at 22. Bulldgos scored 23 and showing how important that first quarter was. The game finished with Wayne Trace winning at 53-60
