Voters from the Village of Antwerp approved the levy to purchase a new fire truck. The equipment was ordered shortly after the election last year and the village took delivery of the new vehicle on Tuesday, February 24.

The truck came in early, ahead of the scheduled time of 9 a.m. The driver brought the Pierce truck from Florida along I-75 and said he had a good trip. “The weather was good this year,” said Russ, after remembering last year’s constant snow. He delivers 10-15 emergency vehicles per year to the towns throughout the eastern half of the US.

Fire Chief Ray Friend explained, “Our old truck is getting up in age and is a concern of not meeting the new standards and requirements that are put upon departments like ours.” After 15 years, a truck is required to be put in reserve, and after 25, it is not supposed to be used anymore for the original purpose.

The truck was purchased from Finley Fire Equipment, represented by Richard Brown. Richard is not unknown around here. He is around the area regularly as a referee for high school sports.

The new Pierce Engine – Antwerp firetruck 44 will be coming online as soon as the department’s equipment is installed and placed where it needs to be for service.
The voters of Antwerp are sure proud of their Fire Department.
