Robert Fry, Raised in Melrose, Runs for the People

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMany years ago, a young fellow by the name of Robert Fry, grew up in Melrose. He was mentored by pastor in Antwerp and he himself became a pastor after coming out of the Vietnam war. Now, he’s running for Congress. We could end the story there but you may not learn much about this Paulding County native.
Robert, a pastor in Maumee, got his start in life in Paulding County – specifically Melrose. He also has ties to Antwerp. The United Methodist pastor in Antwerp was Richard Crosby at the time, and he was the mentor for Robert.
In 1969, Robert joined the Navy to see the world. After four years of being part of the Vietnam conflict, Robert finished and in ’73, decided to become a pastor.
He has been a pastor at the Heritage Church of God in Maumee, Ohio for 28 years now, and he has a great relationship with his congregational family.
Robert knows the hardships that people go through in this economy from helping his parishioners get through their struggles and many have to do with our current policies in Washington. He sees so much that could be done, or that have been taken away from the hard working people he serves. He has talked with current representative Bob Latta about the policies that are causing hardship on the families here, but was frustrated with getting automated answers and pre-written form letters back. You see, Bob Latta’s voting record is 99.3% on party lines, not for the people of the area he was elected to represent. In fact, Latta is rated as number 10 out of 535 members of Congress in voting along strict party lines instead of needs of the people.
Robert decided it was time to run for Congress and be a true representative of the people, not one who is funded by big money and oil companies. He struggled with how to run because the media tells the people what a Republican or a Democrat should be, yet he is not. He is completely Pro-Life and pro-family. He is for the second amendment and he is for the working class. He is running as a Democrat and he had no opponents in the primaries. Why? Because he represents the people in this area, District 5, not just a party.
Not only is Robert Pro Life and for the second amendment, he also understands the need to get government spending under control. He wants to make sure Veterans can get college training and to make sure their needs are taken care of. He is also glad to hear from constituents, letting him know their concerns and what can be done.
Being a family man, Bob understands what people are going through. He is married to Terry Lynn Fry and they have three children: Bonnie, Rob and Andrea. He also has many family in Paulding County and northwest Ohio. His brother is also a pastor in Continental at the Free Christian Church of God. Terry’s father, Norva Skyver, is a lifetime farmer in Paulding County. He understands what this area needs.
The fifth district includes Paulding, Defiance, Henry, Lucas, Van Wert, Putnam, Ottawa, Hancock, Hardin, Wood, Wynadot, Fulton and half of Mercer counties.
When Mr. Fry is elected he intends to stay on as pastor at his church. He said his staff his fantastic and they are such a help with all his and the congregation’s needs.
Robert says, “My vote in Congress is your vote from here.”
