ODOT Update: Progress Is Being Made

-85 ODOT crews are currently operating on the highways within the eight-county area of ODOT District 1.

-Crews resumed treating roadways today with salt and calcium chloride to take advantage of the sun. Treating was primarily concentrated on priority travel routes and at intersections.

-Good progress was made today as some roadways now have bare pavement appearing in the wheel tracks where traffic is traveling. Conditions will remain icy through at least tomorrow afternoon.

-Crews will remain on the highways through the night tonight plowing drifting snow and pushing snow farther back off the roadway. Winds are expected to subside tonight which will help crews in keeping roads passable.

-Beginning early tomorrow, crews will resume the use of salt and calcium chloride in earnest as warming temperatures will aid the effectiveness of the materials.

-Local county sheriff’s departments have begun to lift or downgrade travel advisories. Motorists should check with local departments on the status of travel in their county.
